About Steady Ledger
What This Publication Is
Steady Ledger is an independent editorial publication covering research on mental accounting, household financial behavior, and how people categorize and allocate income from multiple sources. The focus is on behavioral economics findings, financial diary methodology, and the psychology of budgeting — areas where academic research has produced substantial and sometimes contradictory evidence.
The publication exists because these findings are typically locked behind academic paywalls or scattered across journal archives. Steady Ledger summarizes them in plain language, names the researchers behind them, and flags the methodological limitations that the original papers themselves acknowledge.
How Topics Are Selected
Editorial coverage prioritizes peer-reviewed studies, working papers from recognized institutions, and datasets from government statistical agencies. A topic is considered for coverage when at least two independent research teams have published findings on it, or when a single landmark study has generated significant academic discussion.
Topics are not selected based on trending search queries, advertiser interest, or audience engagement metrics.
How Sources Are Cited
Every factual claim in a Steady Ledger article names the researcher or research team responsible for the finding. Where possible, articles link to the published paper, working paper, or dataset. When a finding is based on a sample that is geographically, demographically, or methodologically limited, the article states those limits in the same paragraph as the claim.

- Advertisements do not presuppose any knowledge about the viewer's personal financial situation, income level, employment status, or circumstances

- No advertisement makes claims of results, uses fabricated statistics, or employs urgency or scarcity language
- All advertising content is reviewed against the same editorial standards applied to the publication itself
Correction Policy
When a published claim is found to be inaccurate, outdated, or misleading — whether identified internally or reported by a reader — the article is updated. A correction note is placed at the top of the affected article with the date of the change and a brief description of what was corrected. The original wording is not preserved in the public version, but a record of corrections is maintained internally.
Corrections can be reported to support@steadyledger.online.
